FREEHOLD, NJ – – Spandrel Hanover rallied strongly in the stretch and scored an upset victory in the featured $19,000 Invitational handicap for pacers at Freehold Raceway on Saturday.

Driven by Brent Holland, the seven-year-old Raging Glory gelding edged clear by three-quarters of a length at the wire in a final time of 1:55.4. Carlspur (Steven Salerno), who had led through most of the stretch, held well for second. The 3-5 favorite, Skydancer Hanover (David Miller), finished another neck back in third.

Spandrel Hanover, who is owned by the partnership of Gombert, Rose, Rose and Laios, notched his second win of the year in five outings. Overlooked in the wagering at 25-1, the trainee of George Anthony rewarded his supporters with a generous win mutuel of $53.60.
