Sprocket wins Harrington Open; last six races rained out

Harrington, DE — Edwin Gannon’s Sprocket ($7.40, Pat Berry) recorded his fifth win of the season off a pocket trip in 1:53.3 over a sloppy racetrack Tuesday (July 5) at Harrington Raceway in the $20,000 Open Pace.

The 7-year-old Sportswriter gelding enjoyed a pocket trip behind pacesetter Movin’ On Up, who made the lead early from post position eight. Sprocket gained the lead near the top of the stretch and held off Movin’ On Up and She’s Pukka N to the wire. Movin’ On Up held second while Shes Pukka N, one of three mares in the race, finished third.

Sprocket, who is trained by Traci Berry, has had a career year with nearly $100,000 earned this season and a dazzling 1:48.2 mark set at Bally’s Dover.

Berry had three wins on the card while Mike Cole had a double.

The last six races of the 15-race card were canceled due to unsafe conditions after heavy downpours in the region.

Live racing will resume Wednesday (July 6) with a 15-race card. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
