SRF’s 12 Days of Giving campaign nears completion

from the Standardbred Retirement Foundation

Millstone Township, NJ — The Standardbred Retirement Foundation’s 12 Days Of Giving campaign is providing much needed care for harness racing’s former campaigners who have given to racing and need help.

The generosity of donors is gratefully received as each “gift” arrives. The campaign started with a home for one at Diamond Creek Farm. Tom and Mary Ellen Valeri donated $1,000 to insulate and heat the tack room that serves as the trainer’s office. Brett Coffey donated $120 for shoes for one horse with an injury; a $500 gift was gratefully received from Dale Wyatt and will go towards the transportation and quarantine of one horse tagged for slaughter. There was a surprise gift of $600 from an anonymous donor which will provide a visit from the dentist for 12 horses at $50 each.

The gifts and kindness keep growing as each day of the 12 Days of Giving passes. The Kuchar Family and Kathy Soler each donated $400 for the rehabilitation of a saved horse from slaughter and Dr. Joy Micale generously gave $550 for therapeutic shoes for horses in need and SRF has a few of them unwrapping that one.

There are still a few days left and SRF hopes for continued kindness toward the needs of the 198 horses in its care of which 125 are continually passed over by adopters due to age or injury such as 27-year-old Ernies Legacy, 24-year-old Mohawk Shy Star, and 4-year-old Nevada Burner who came to SRF as a 2-year-old from a livestock auction with hind suspensories that nearly touched the ground. Every gift helps to make the holidays a little bit brighter for them and lighter for the work SRF has in front of it.

The wish list includes rehabilitation care for one horse rescued from slaughter–$400; hoof care for 1-12 horses or more–$35 each; a sponsor for our Elitlopp fund raising raffle–$4,000; a new sponsor for a pasture puff for any month or all of 2015–$240-$2,880; a visit from the dentist for 1-12 or more–$50 each; a structure over our riding/training ring to utilize all 365 days–$8,500; and a tax-deductible gift in any amount to give back to the horses that have given so much of themselves which SRF is grateful for at any time of the year.
