St Elmo Hero to donate winnings to St. Baldrick’s Foundation

Crete, IL — It won’t just be the racing world focused on Balmoral Park on Saturday (Feb. 26) as the hottest horse in North America, St Elmo Hero, heads out in pursuit of his 24th consecutive win. Supporters of St. Baldrick’s Foundation and soldiers in the war against childhood cancer will have a special interest in the race as well thanks to the charity of St Elmo Hero’s owner John Barnard.
Barnard, an Orland Park, Ill., resident has offered to donate any/all of St Elmo Hero’s winnings from this weekend to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event being held at Balmoral Park on March 19.
“I spoke with Elmo and we agreed this would be a great thing, however he doesn’t want to shave his head,” laughed Barnard. “In all seriousness, fighting childhood cancer is an important cause to us and we wanted to make a difference with our local St. Baldrick’s chapter.”
Fans are encouraged to come out and root on St Elmo Hero live at Balmoral Park this Saturday night as he looks to keep his perfect lifetime record intact. Balmoral Park is located in Crete, Ill., just 12 miles south of 80/94 and always features free admission and free parking. Racing starts at 7:10 p.m. (CST).
After his Saturday appearance at Balmoral Park, St Elmo Hero and his connections will head to Canada for approximately a month as they try to conquer the Cam Fella Stake at Woodbine.

The last time we saw him “live” back on Sept. 4, 2010, owner John Barnard’s St Elmo Hero had just won his eighth race in as many tries here at Balmoral Park and was starting to garner plenty of “local” attention.
