St Lads Sterling springs major upset at the Spa

Saratoga Springs, NY — After upsetting Open foes at 23-1 three weeks ago, St Lads Sterling blew up the Saratoga Casino Hotel tote board again on Saturday (June 17), overcoming post eight and capturing the featured $17,000 Open Pace as the longest shot on the board at 35-1.

Jay Randall unleashed the Jackie Greene trainee in the early going and made the lead into the first turn. St Lads Sterling blazed a trail behind him a :55 first half before clicking off three-quarters in an eye-popping 1:22.3. The upset-minded leader showed no signs of letting up in the stretch and held strong to score in 1:52.1 over Wyatt J (driven by Luke Hanners) and Talking Tom (Chris Long).

St Lads Sterling, a 4-year-old son of Control The Moment, is owned by Janie Kellogg and the Jackie Greene Stables. He paid $73.50 to win.

Randall and Greene also teamed up for a victory with Im No Outlaw N in a $12,500 conditioned pace. The New Zealand invader was also ignored by the bettors, paying $39.40 to win while completing a double for Greene and a hat trick for Randall.

Live racing at Saratoga continues Sunday afternoon (June 18); first post is 12 noon.
