Campbellville, ON — Parlee Beach distinguished herself as one of North America’s top rookie pacing fillies as she lowered the stakes record to 1:50.4 in the C$50,000 Whenuwishuponastar final on Thursday evening at Mohawk.

Trained by Hall of Famer, Robert McIntosh, the homebred daughter of Somebeachsomewhere-Countryview Miss is now the fastest rookie pacer regardless of sex in North America this season.

L Dees Lioness (Scott Zeron) alertly left the gate from post ten as she led her nine rivals past the opening panel in :27.

Heading towards the half, Social Scene (Paul MacDonell) was still parked on the outside, but crossed over to take command before the mid-way point in a quick :54.4.

As the rookie pacers marched towards three-quarters I Luv The Nitelife (Jack Moiseyev) became the first-over attacker with Parlee Beach tracking her.

I Luv The Nitelife struck the front past three-quarters in 1:23.3, but Parlee Beach was shown clear racetrack at the top of the stretch and the bay filly responded by opening up on her rivals to win by 2-1/4 lengths. L Dees Lioness (Scott Zeron) finished second with I Luv The Nitelife (Jack Moiseyev) competing the triactor. Love Canal (Jody Jamieson), who was the post time favorite, finished fourth.

Parlee Beach now remains a perfect three-for-three to start her young career as her earnings climbed to $44,000. She paid $8.50 to win.

“I’m speechless to tell you the truth,” owner/breeder Pat Ryan said following the race. “All winter, Bob (McIntosh) told me that she was a serious filly while training down and to see her perform at the top level like this is incredible. To be the breeder of her makes it even extra special.”

Since it was renamed the Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series in 2002 (previously named Maiden Series), McIntosh has captured the event six times with Remember When (2002), Arts Risk (2004) and the past four consecutive years with You See L A (2009), Strike An Attitude (2010), Shelliscape (2011) and now Parlee Beach.

McIntosh also trained Whenuwishuponastar, who retired with $578,752 in earnings and was voted Canada’s 2-Year-Old Pacing Filly and co-Horse of the Year in 1996.
