Trois-Rivieres, PQ — After the big Prix D’Ete Sunday at the Hippodrome 3R, live racing continues Tuesday night (Aug. 23) with more stakes action.
The fourth and final preliminary round of the Future Stars Series for 2-year-old colt and filly trotters takes place. After Tuesday’s two divisions, the top eight point earners for each gender will return for the Super Sunday Finals on Sept. 4. That day there will be four C$55,000 finals for the 2-year-olds and four C$65,000 finals for the 3-year-olds.
Kinnder Dangerous is the horse to beat in the colt division. With Real Lucky Day not in the box, Kinnder Dangerous headlines the field with one win and two second place finishes.
The gelded son of Northern Escort starts from post three for driver Justin Filion and trainer Denitza Petrova and should have it easy against only three rivals in the non-wagering race that will take place at 6:45 p.m. before the first race.
The fillies do battle between the fifth and sixth races. Joyce Lavec looms the strong horse, having won two of her three starts this season, both in the Future Stars series.
She starts from post five for driver Pascal Berube and trainer Dany Fontaine and goes against rivals Taurus P V (post two) and Muscle Do (post one).
Prix D’Ete Notes: Sunday’s Prix D’Ete, despite the rain later in the day, was a big success according to 3R General Manager Vincent Trudel.
“Whenever we can get 5,000 people to come out to the track,” Trudel said, “it is a great day. Having Hall of Famer Benoit Cote as our special Grand Marshal of the Prix D’Ete was so good. So many fans greeted him and wanted to shake his hand. And even with the rain, what a excellent Prix D’Ete race it was. Rockin Ron and Wiggle It Jiggleit gave the fans a super race. I am so pleased that the Teague Stable brought their world champion to Quebec for all the race fans to see.”
For driver Yannick Gingras, the homecoming brought him his second Prix D’Ete win with Rockin Ron. He also won the Prix D’Ete in 2014 with Sunfire Blue Chip.
There is no doubt that if it did not rain that the all-age track record of 1:50.3 would have been broken. The race time of 1:52 by Rockin Ron over the sloppy track was still a track record for 4-year-old geldings.
Wiggle It Jiggleit’s trainer, Clyde Frances, gave 3R management a pair of the world champion’s horse shoes that will be given away in a special drawing on Super Sunday (Sept. 4).
Despite his loss in the Prix D’Ete, Wiggle It Jiggleit still remains No. 1 in the North American Top Ten Poll.
Track management at 3R went game on the wagering for the Prix D’Ete despite the five-horse field with win wagering only, exacta and trifecta betting. Rockin Ron paying $30.40 to win was higher than the trifecta payoff of $30.20 while the exacta paid a generous $16.30.
