Standardbred 2YO Trotting Stakes highlight Tuesday action at Delaware

Lovin Every Moment grabbed the early lead and easily held off the challenge of Up Front Doug to win the $57,510 Standardbred 2YO Colt Trot Tuesday afternoon a the Delaware, Ohio County Fair. Trainer-driver Charlie Norris said in the winner’s circle, “I owe everything to my Godfather, Tom Brinkerhoff. He got him ready and shipped him to me. He made one break early and he’s been really good since then.”

Lovin Every Moment is a homebred son of SJ’s Caviar-Priceless Moment owned by Leonard Buckner of Mount Eaton, OH. Lovin Every Moment was on top by two lengths at the three-quarters and won by five lengths in 2:00.4. Up Front Doug (Doug Snyder) stalked the winner but never could close the gap. American Pacific (Mike Wilder) finished third.

This was the chestnut colt’s third win in eight career starts. He also sent his bankroll to $76,788.

Sugg Scores With Heather’s Dream In The Filly Standardbred In the $46,510 Standardbred for two-year-old filly trotters, Heather’s Dream went gate-to-wire to score a 3/4 length victory in 2:02 1/5.

Driver J. Duke Sugg sent Heather’s Dream of the gate quickly, taking control of the field in the first turn and set the fractions of :30 1/5, 1:01 1/5 and 1:31. Southwind Felician (Joe Putnam) overcame a break at the start and mounted a challenge down the lane, but had to settle for the place spot.
Southwind Ursalin (Brett Miller) took third.

“She (Heather’s Dream) has always had some gate speed,” noted winning trainer/owner Ivan Sugg. “This was her last start of the year. It is a good time to stop with her.”

The freshman lass of Dream Vacation scored for the third time in 10 starts, improving her earnings to $75,521.

Brett Miller Notches Six Wins

Ohio’s leading driver, Brett Miller scored 6 wins in 16 starts on Tuesday’s card. The 32-year-old native of Columbus now has 14 tallies for the week. The record for wins during Jug week is 18 set by Brett’s cousin, David Miller, in 1997.
