Standardbreds shine in Canadian showcase

by Debbie Guiles Schiff, for Ohio Standardbreds and Friends

Columbus, OH — Allamerican Legacy, Senator Sahbra and Sugar’s Superman represented the U.S., Ohio Standardbreds & Friends and New Vocations this past weekend (Aug.20-21) in Ridgetown, Ont.

Sugar’s Superman, aka Cohiba, and owner Rosann Prudhoe placed third in Western Halter, second in Western Pleasure and fourth in Dressage. Cohiba was stunning to watch in Western Pleasure and although he was out of his comfort zone from the Dressage ring, he handled it with the typical Standardbred attitude and style.

Senator Sahbra and owner Paul Schiff placed third in Western halter and showmanship, second and third in Western riding classes. The pair was also first and second in Racking and Speed Racking both days of the show.

Senator was the only gaited Standardbred last year, but had two other Standardbreds competed with him this year. The crowd really got involved so it was very fun as well as a learning experience in regards to the two disciplines.

Allamerican Legacy placed first in Western Halter and English halter and was also first and second in showmanship with Canadian Jaci Payne. He lead the way in Western Dressage, Classical Dressage, Western and English riding classes and numerous driving classes with Canadian rider/driver Michelle Bohrer. The pair also won High Point Driving Reserve Champions on Saturday (Aug. 20) and High Point Driving Champions on Sunday (Aug. 21).

The Southwestern Ontario Standardbred Show was not only a fun time with fellow competitors and their horses, but also a very successful show for the Ohio horses and owners. This show has been scheduled for the same weekend in 2017 and everyone is looking forward to competing yet again.
