Starship continues to shine at Rosecroft

Ft. Washington, MD — On a night with a backdrop more fit for a Stephen King novel, Starship continued to shine for his new barn and lifted trainer Megan Roberts to a training triple on Sunday night (Feb. 28) at Rosecroft.

In the night’s final race, Starship, who doesn’t exactly exude jaguar like speed leaving the gate, sat fifth as pacesetter Son Of A Lynx (:27, :56.3, and 1:24.1), fought off challenges from Homestretch Wes and Rock Smart.

As the field exited the final turn driver Jonathan Roberts had his charge three wide and caught the dueling pair of Rock Smart and Son Of A Lynx by a quarter-length in 1:52.4 on a track listed as sloppy.

Starship is now 6-for-10 since joining the Roberts Barn, is owned by Bib Roberts, trained by daughter Megan and driven by his son who won four races on Sunday night. It was also a new lifetime mark for the 4-year-old son of Captaintreacherous.

Roberts swept the late double as he won with Buckeye N in his first start for his dad and sister in 1:54.1.

Megan Roberts’ training triple was completed by Mosh Pit who won his fifth straight claimer with Luke Hanners in the bike.

Jonathan Roberts’ driving grand slam included wins with Prince Clyde for Richard Malone Jr. and Fantastic Voyage for Dawn Amiss and trainer Shaun Callahan.

Trae Porter won a pair on Sunday night as Always A Tiger won for Christopher Sharpe and trainer Charlene Sharpe and Cherokee Ranger won at 16-1 for Gene Robinson and trainer Steven Robinson.

Hanners, in addition to winning with Mosh Pit, won with Franco for Brian Callahan.

Rosecroft resumes live racing Wednesday night with a first race post of 7:15 p.m. and a $1,793 carryover in the Pick-5.
