Starship soars in Maryland Open

Ft. Washington, MD — Starship and driver Jason Thompson took the lead past the opening quarter and sprinted away from six rivals to win the $15,500 Maryland Open on Thursday night (Oct. 20) at Rosecroft Raceway.

Starship won for the ninth time this year, stopping the clock in 1:51.2. It was one of three wins for Thompson on the card and one of three for owner-trainer William “Bib” Roberts.

Montreall Teague and Virgo used a :27.2 closing quarter to surge past the field in the $15,000 3- and 4-Year-Old Open, winning in 1:51. Trainer Dylan Davis shares ownership of Virgo with Howard Taylor and Jeff Billings.

Jonathan Roberts won three races on the night while John Wagner won twice.
