Steve Serges, 88, dies

Columbus, OH — Longtime Standardbred owner and breeder Steve Serges, 88, died Sept. 5, 2017.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 16) at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 W. Silver Lake Rd., Fenton, Mich. Interment will follow at Flint Memorial Park, Mt. Morris. Visitation will be held from 12-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday (Sept. 15) at Sharp Funeral Home.

Mr. Serges was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Flushing, Mich. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1948.

He married the love of his life, Donna Lee Gullifor, Aug. 17, 1953, in Angola, Ind. She preceded him in death on July 1, 1989.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955.

His daughters were his world. He was a man full of wisdom and always giving advice to whomever needed it.

Mr. Serges enjoyed horse racing and spending time at the casino where he made many friends and enjoyed his social time with everyone. He was a very successful businessman who passed on all of his wisdom to his daughters, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. He devoted his life to the happiness of his family.

He is survived by his daughters, Toni (Steve) Sleva, Kellie Brindley, Dana (Matthew) Ferris, and Brenda (Wade) McDermaid; grandchildren, Ashlee, Stevie, Brandi, Brittney, Brett, Chase, Devin, Austin, and Wade Jr.; great-grandchildren, Kaden, Brindley, Brooklyn, Gianni, Giselle, Gia, and Bo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Tillie Serges; sisters, Fannie, Jeanie, and Anna; and brothers, George, Julius, and Henry. Special thanks to dear friends Harvey Eisman and Nick Sasseen for their endearing friendship.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for their thoughts and prayers.
