Strong Poison, Calliope Hanover win Meadows series splits

Washington, PA – Strong Poison confidently pulled the pocket into the final turn to capture her career debut in Wednesday’s (June 29) Pop Up Series at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows. Calliope Hanover was a front-end winner in the other $8,000 second-leg division of the series for 2-year-old filly pacers.

Strong Poison stalked Dontletjuliafoolya from the two hole, but when Ronnie Wrenn, Jr. tipped her off the cones, she zipped by to down Dontletjuliafoolya by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:55.3, with Stay Happy third.

Calliope Hanover seized the lead from post five for Hunter Myers but had to dig in late to hold off Hello Yes Hi by a nose in 1:56.1. Southwind Bourbon completed the ticket. Brad Buxton conditions Calliope Hanover, a daughter of Stay Hungry-Castaway Hanover, for Joellen Buxton, Harold Altman and Vavlin Racing LLC.

Jeremy Indoff, Aaron Merriman and Mike Wilder joined trainer Richard Perfido with doubles on the 11-race card.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Thursday when the 12-race program features a pair of carryovers: $28,975.20 in the Jackpot Pick-5 (race 4), $5,760.66 in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
