Successful meet concludes at Bluegrass Downs

Paducah, KY — On Sunday (July 10) Bluegrass Downs concluded its 2016 meet with a 10-race card. While it was assumed that the highlight of the day would be the awarding of leading driver and trainer awards, perhaps the most exciting moment was 18-year-old Mississippi native Geremy Bobbitt winning his first pari-mutuel race.

Bobbitt’s win was accompanied by a huge winner’s circle crowd. He has been working with horses all his life and driving for almost 10 years back home in various fairs. He’s always been into horses and always wanted to become a driver. He’s campaigned a stable in Kentucky this spring and summer with good success as a trainer and once he gained enough charted drives he earned his Provisional license.

As for leading driver, Randy Crisler seized command early and added an exclamation point with a five win day on the penultimate day of the meet. What made it even more outstanding was he only had five drives that day. His dominance was complete at the meet as with more than 70 drives he finished first or second in two-thirds of them.

Harley Emerson, with a huge assist from his wife Janet, earned his first training title at Bluegrass downs on the strength of winning almost 50 percent of his starts. He excelled with claimers and in particular, Cole Diddy went four-for-four at Bluegrass Downs, improving from a $3,000 claimer to a $6,000 claimer while winning every race.
