Super Hi-5 carryover swells to $52,748 at Pompano

Pompano Beach, FL — Pompano Park’s Super Hi-5 carryover has swelled to well over $50,000 going into the Tuesday (March 26) program.

The popular 20-cent based wager has produced some very hefty payoffs during this season and with the carryover now at $52,748.05 the jackpot could balloon to well over $60,000 on Tuesday night.

In order to capture the jackpot, there must be only one single 20-cent winning ticket combination featuring the first five finishers in the event, which is carded as the final race on each racing program.

The Tuesday Super Hi-5 finale feature a “million dollar” field of trotters going behind the Brownlee Starting Gate with the nine starters showing career earnings $1,477,862 — the richest of which is the gallant mare Diamond Dagger, trained by Mark O’Mara for owner Melvin Schmucker. The 7-year-old daughter of ABC Garland has a career bankroll of $314,534 on the strength of 35 career wins.

About the race, track handicapper John Berry said, “What makes this event so interesting is that the 2-1 morning line favorite has the outside nine post, a post that has proven successful only 7.5 percent of the time. It’s definitely a race where the entire jackpot could go with that single winning ticket combination.”

That 2-1 morning line favorite is Diamond Dagger, who has the fastest mark in the field (1:53), achieved at Pompano Park. Jason Dillander is expected back of Diamond Dagger on Tuesday night.

According to the morning line, her main competition is expected to come from Lexis Rocky, an 8-year-old son of Amigo Hall. Owned and trained by Jim McDonald, Lexis Rocky takes a dip in class this week and will have the driving services of Wally Hennessey, the track’s leading driver who has won an astounding 299 races during the current Pompano Park meeting.

Post time for the Tuesday program is set for 7:20 p.m.
