Columbus, OH — NJ.com is reporting that Monday’s (May 14) U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning the federal 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, which prohibited sports betting in all states except Nevada, Delaware, Montana and Oregon, will now allow sports betting at New Jersey racetracks and casinos.

In the Supreme Court case, Murphy, Governor of New Jersey v. National Collegiate Athletic Association, the court overturned the previous ruling of the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that rejected a New Jersey law legalizing sports betting in the state.

The story quotes N.J. Governor Phil Murphy on the decision.

“I am thrilled to see the Supreme Court finally side with New Jersey and strike down the arbitrary ban on sports betting imposed by Congress decades ago,” said Murphy. “I look forward to working with the legislature to enact a law authorizing and regulating sports betting in the very near future.”
