Svanstedt sweeps Sunday Simpson splits

Chester, PA — Fresh off two wins in Saturday’s Breeders Crown eliminations, Åke Svanstedt returned to Harrah’s Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 23) and swept both divisions of the $106,600 Davidia Hanover, the John Simpson Sr. Memorial event for 2-year-old trotting fillies.

Wild Jiggy S, a daughter of International Moni-Hot Mess Hanover, broke her maiden with a 1:55.2 victory, with Svastedt also at the lines. Wild Jiggy S sustained a first-over rally to defeat pacesetter Ruth Honig by a neck, with favorite Park Slope chasing from the pocket up the inside only to miss by another head. Jorgen Sparradal Inc. owns the victorious half sister of Breeders Crown elimination winner Jiggy Jog S.

The road to the winner’s circle was not nearly as difficult for Svanstedt and Pure Hope S, a foreign-bred daughter of Brillantissime-Final Hope, blitzing to the lead into the far turn and drawing away by 6-3/4 lengths to win in 1:54.4. Perry Soderberg owns the winner of three out of seven races thus far in her brief career.

The track’s top two drivers, Tim Tetrick and Simon Allard, both had three winners on the Sunday card.

Racing resumes at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 27) at 12:25 p.m., with two divisions of the $86,800 Albatross, the John Simpson Sr. Memorial stakes for 3-year-old pacing colts. Program pages will be available on the PHHA website.
