Sweet And Feisty tenacious in Meadows feature; Merriman wins five

Washington, PA — Sweet And Feisty stubbornly turned back the challenge of the pocket-sitting Think Of Galaxies to capture Thursday’s feature at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows, a $12,100 filly and mare conditioned pace.

Sweet And Feisty scored in 1:51.1. Chris Gooden photo.

Hammered down to 1-5, Sweet And Feisty confidently quarter-poled past Think Of Galaxies, and when Ronnie Wrenn Jr. gave her a moderate :56 half, it looked like the race was hers. Think Of Galaxies had other ideas, but her bid fell three-quarters of a length short. Lovely Munro finished third in the mile, which went in 1:51.1.

Ron Burke trains Sweet And Feisty, who won her second straight and extended her career bankroll to $153,993, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi.

Aaron Merriman piloted five winners on the 13-race card while Dave Palone and trainer Dirk Simpson each enjoyed a triple.

Live racing at The Meadows continues Friday, first post 12:45 p.m.
