by Steve Wolf, Senior Director of Marketing, Pompano Park

Pompano Beach, FL — Pompano Park Racing & Poker will host its seventh annual Sweetheart Trot on Valentine’s Night, featuring one of the only horse racing events in the world for women drivers only.

The third race has eight women competing, some even from Europe and Canada, including Maine’s Kelly Case, who has 747 career wins, Norway’s Gro Formia, Montreal’s Danielle Beaulieu, New Jersey’s Miriam Toland, New England’s Diane Hellen, Ontario’s Laurie Poulin, Michigan’s Kim Lapier and New York’s Michele Brainard round out the competitors.

Diane Hellen owns, trains and drives the 5-2 morning line favorite, Cormontess, who starts from post five and last week led from start to finish in their first win of the year.

The winner of the Sweetheart Trot receives, of course, a box of chocolates, special floral bouquet and plaque in honor of Valentine’s Day.

All women that attend the race Monday night will get a rose in honor of Valentine’s Day. There will also be free miniature horse rides at 8:00 p.m. followed by the third annual For Children’s S.A.K.E. fund raising mini horse trot race.
