Switzer to drive in all 11 races as Scarborough opens

by Jack Ginnetti

Marlborough, MA — The script couldn’t have been written better. Keven Switzer, Jr., fresh off four winning drives Thursday at Monticello, will drive in all 11 races on Saturday’s (March 31) opening harness card at Scarborough Downs. Post time is 4 p.m. (EDT).

The Maine driving sensation, who was named Driver of the Year in New England by the harness writers (New England Chapter) in 2011, will test his skills with drivers he used to look up to when he was in his teens. Namely, W. Drew Campbell, Wallace Watson, Chris Long, Steve Nason, Ruel Goodblood and Gary Mosher, to name a few.

It also marks a homecoming of sorts for the 24-year-old who grew up a few miles from Scarborough and learned the ropes from his father, Kevin Switzer, who resides in nearby Cumberland, Maine.

No matter what the outcome at the finish of Saturday’s 62nd Scarborough opening card, the younger Switzer has taken harness racing to new heights as he plans to make the Catskill region (Monticello Raceway) his new home.
