Campbellville, ON — The Grand Filly established a Canadian season’s record for 2-year-old filly trotters in the fourth and fastest $48,825 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold division at Mohawk Monday evening (July 14). All four OSS winners were recording their second wins in as many lifetime starts.

In the last division, The Grand Filly took over the lead from Allies Gift by the :28.2 opening panel. She hit the half for Jody Jamieson in :59 and had company in the form of Amoureuse Hanover at the 1:27.4 third quarter. But The Grand Filly lived up to her name, fought off that challenger and hung tough to win in 1:56.4. Amoureuse Hanover held for second while Allies Gift was the show horse.

The Grand Filly, a daughter of Muscle Mass-Six Figure Dreams, won her first life start at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in 1:58.2 last week. Trained by Erv Miller for Mystical Marker Farms and Paymaq Racing, she is the first foal from the Kadabra mare Six Figure Dreams.

The first division saw Desis Dream grab early control but she was passed at the :29.3 first quarter by Magical Gem who led the field by the half in :59.4. Steve Condren had Allerage Star were up to challenge and that filly was head to head with the leader at the 1:29.2 third panel.

Allerage Star took over in the stretch but was overtaken late by You’re Majestic and Doug McNair who won comfortably in 1:57.4. Allerage Star held for second while Desis Dream finished third.

It was the second lifetime win for You’re Majestic, a daughter of Majestic Son-You’re Adorable, trained by Tony O’Sullivan for Frank Bellino and Sons LLC.

Juanitas Fury showed maturity despite her relative inexperience in the second test. She took over the lead for Paul MacDonell from Mystical Brat, who hit the quarter in :28.3, and was settled on top by the half in :59.3 and could not be caught from there. She fought off a strong challenge from Gee Okeeffe at the 1:29.4 three-quarters and was home in 1:58.1. Gee Okeeffe held for second while Lady Caterina was third.

Juanitas Fury, a daughter of Kadabra-Gramolas Image, is unbeaten now in two lifetime starts for trainer John Bax, who co-owns with Glengate Farm, Don Allensen and Gaelic Stable.

Bax’s starter in the next division, Stubborn Belle, grabbed the lead early but was passed at the :28.1 first quarter by I Feel Good. That filly was covered up before the :58.1 half by Rustic Rosie. Danielle Hall trotted up and by before the 1:28.2 third panel and drew off to win by open lengths in 1:57.3 for Jody Jamieson. Sheguindah was second followed by Rustic Rosie.

Danielle Hall, a daughter of Deweycheatumnhowe-Debbie Hall, is a full sister to last year’s good 2-year-old filly in the OSS program, Danica Hall. Carl Jamieson trains and owns the filly, who was notching the second straight victory of her young career, with Winnipeg Racing.

This was the first Gold event for this group of the 2014 season. The first Grassroots event for this division will take place Tuesday night back at the Campbellville oval.
