Thirteen races carded for season opener at Hoosier Park

Anderson, IND. (March 29, 2006) – Hoosier Park conducted its first post position draw for the upcoming 2006 Standardbred meet Wednesday, March 29, bringing 13 races for the opening night card Saturday, April 1. A total of 129 horses will step onto the track for the first night of racing.

Included on the card is a $12,500 conditioned race set as the 12th on the program. Headlining the list of entrants is What A View coming in from The Meadows in Pennsylvania. The four-year-old Cam’s Card Shark gelding has three starts and three second place finishes this year. Trained by Roy Saul, What A View will start from post two in the 10-horse lineup for driver Don Irvine Jr., Hoosier Park’s all-time leading driver.

Another new contender will venture into Hoosier Park. Fresh Heir from the Bret Shultz stable has one win this season from the Chicago circuit. Joe Essig Jr. will guide the five-year-old Riyadh gelding from post six.

Local contender My Chief will make his first start of 2006 for trainer Jerry Sowash. With earnings totaling more than $179,000, the five-year-old Indiana sired gelding has two qualifying events to prep for the race, winning both outings.

To help welcome back racing fans for the 13th season of harness racing, the first 1,500 fans age 18 and over will receive a free-t-shirt. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the first race goes to post at 6:45 p.m.

Live racing will be conducted for the 60-day meet Wednesday through Sunday with a first post at 6:45 p.m. No racing will be held Sunday, April 16 in observance of Easter.
