Freehold, NJ — Here is this week’s look back at some memorable moments in harness racing history.

June 18, 1988: Mack Lobell wins the Statue of Liberty Trot, at a distance of 1-1/8th miles, in a world record 2:09.4 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey.

June 19, 1987: Scenic Regal sets the world record for older mares trotting on a half-mile track by winning in 1:58 at Saratoga Raceway in New York.

June 20, 1992: Safely Kept wins the North America Cup in 1:53.1 at Greenwood Raceway in Toronto, at odds of 30-1.

June 21, 1855: Pocahontas beats Hero in a match race and lowers the world pacing record to 2:17½ at the Union Course on Long Island, New York.

June 22, 1965: Immortal sire Adios dies.

June 22, 1996: Jenna’s Beach Boy paces the fastest race mile in history by winning the Driscoll (now William R. Haughton Memorial) in 1:47.3 at the Meadowlands.

June 23, 1877: Great trotting mare Lady Thorn dies.

June 23, 1987: Mike Lachance wins 12 races at Yonkers Raceway in New York, setting a record for most victories at one track on a single day.

June 24, 1978: Steady Knave equals the world record for gelding pacers, going 1:54.3 at the Meadowlands.
