Thomas Kemp, 91, dies

Columbus, OH – Thomas Kemp, of Camden-Wyoming, passed away peacefully, in his daughters home, Sunday, May 29, 2022. He was 91.

Tom was born March 26, 1931 in Willow Grove to the late, Hampton & Myrtle (Hobbs) Kemp. He worked as a truck driver for many years for Wyoming-Millwork before retiring although in later years he trucked horses for many local owners and trainers.

His true passion was training and owning race horses. He trained them himself until 2011 and among the hundred plus he owned over the years his favorites would have been Scarlet Maid and Repartee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. Milton Kemp, Maurice Kemp, Michael Kemp and Delbert Kemp; and his sister, Ethel Dill.

Tom is survived by his companion of 43 years, Shirley Culp; five daughters, Patty Tilley, of Felton & her companion, Perry Melvin, Sr.; Margaret “Peggy” Ball & husband, Larry, of Dover; Charlotte Kemp, & Brenda King & husband, Bob, both of Harrington; and Elizabeth Kemp(Punk), of Dover; step-daughter, Lori Yanero, of Felton; two sisters, Mabel Glanden & Doris Ann Wright & husband, Kenny, both of Camden-Wyoming; seven grandchildren, Johnny Tilley & wife, Lenna, of Dover; Christina Davidson, of Woodside; Erik Ball, of Dover; Kyle Ball & wife, Stefanie, of Georgia; Amber Barnes & husband, Greg, of Farmington; Robert King, Jr, of Magnolia; and Danielle Kemp, of Camden-Wyoming; five great-grandchildren; a special nephew, Brian Wright, who was a big help to the family caring for him, as well as several other nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 8, 2022, in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave. Wyoming, DE; where family and friends may view two hours before. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery, Sandtown.
