Thoroughbred horsemen raise issue with Gural-Big M deal

from the USTA Communications Department

Columbus, OH — The New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association claims that a no-bid deal was made between Governor Chris Christie and Jeff Gural to operate Meadowlands Racetrack.

In a story posted on northjersey.com, John Brennan writes that the NJTHA made the claim in an April 15 letter to Dennis Robinson, president of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.

The letter claims that the Thoroughbred horsemen had sought to take on the lease at the Meadowlands prior to an announcement by Christie in mid-December that Gural was granted an exclusive 90-day window to try to raise $100 million in capital and cut deals with the various unions at the track.
