Tight finishes and big payoffs at Bangor Raceway

Bangor, ME – The photo finish camera was put through its paces on Wednesday (Sept. 14) at Bangor Raceway as seven of the 10 races programmed were decided within the margin of one length or less. And while the fans were delighted by the tantalizingly close finish line battles, they were absolutely elated when the generous payoffs were posted on the infield board with the average win ticket return coming back at nearly $20 per race.

Bolt Ruler (Bolt The Duer) exemplified the typical Bangor winner on Wednesday, as driver Heath Campbell battled his brother Drew Campbell’s charge, R T Lange (Art Major), through the stretch. Separated by just a neck at the wire, Bolt Ruler returned $54.80 to win while keying a hefty $1,800 exacta return after pairing up with the 40-1 shot R T Lange.

Value at the windows has certainly become the order of the day at Bangor Raceway.

In other Bangor news, driver Kevin Switzer Jr. held the hot hand on Wednesday while amassing three wins on the afternoon program. Included in his tally was the 30th career winner’s circle appearance for the Neal Grass trainee, Golden Tree (Western Ideal).

Top prize in the afternoon’s $8,000 feature event went to Ohoka Johnny N (Ohoka Arizona) who cut a determined mile timed in 1:54.4. Expertly driven by Nick Graffam for trainer Karl Butterfield, Ohoka Johnny N turned the tables on Call Me Maverick (Western Maverick), besting the recent track record holder by a neck at the wire to avenge last week’s runner-up placing.

Bangor Raceway’s truncated September meet concludes on Saturday (Sept. 17) with a 12:15 p.m. post time. Live harness racing will then return to the Queen City oval on Oct. 12 when the fall meet commences. Simulcast wagering remains available at Bangor Raceway every Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.
