Tioga and Vernon require 24-hour health certificate

by Scott Warren, for Tioga and Vernon Downs

Nichols, NY — All horses shipping into Tioga Downs or Vernon Downs that have raced or resided at Saratoga Harness from March 1 through March 21, 2012, must have a 24-hour health certificate and rectal temperatures must be recorded.

The following statement must appear on the health certificate:

“Horses on this certificate have not originated from a barn with a confirmed or suspect case of strangles, nor have shown signs suggestive of these diseases, nor have been febrile within the previous three weeks.”

Health certificates must be faxed to Tioga Downs at 607.699.3901 or Vernon Downs at 315.829.3364 at least 24 hours prior to shipping in.

With the barn areas at both tracks opening on April 1, we feel it necessary to take this action to prevent the potential spread of strangles.

Vernon Downs horsemen that are currently stabled must continue on with temperature checks daily, recording them, and having them secured in the barn. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
