Nichols, NY — Tioga Downs has slated a ten race card for its opening day of the 2009 season on Saturday, May 2. Post time for opening night is slated for 6:50 p.m.

In the featured $14,000 Open Handicap Trot, Self Professed, a winner of more than $850,000 in his career, has been slated the 3-1 morning line favorite from post position nine. Jim Morrill, Jr. has been given the driving assignment from top conditioner Mark Ford. The 7-year-old son of Self Possessed has won 25 of his 113 starts, although only one of five in 2009. He seeks to get back on track as he did in 2008 when he won eight of 30 starts for earnings of more than $175,000 and a mark of 1:54.1 at Harrah’s Chester.

Tioga will continue live racing action on Sunday, May 3, with a post time of 1:30 p.m. featuring 13 races. Eight time Tioga Downs winner and reigning co-Horse of the Year Winbak Dimensions will look to continue where he left off in the featured $14,000 Open Pace. Usual pilot Jimmy Marohn, Jr. will be in the bike for 2008 Trainer of the Year Jim Perry, who set the benchmark last year for training victories with 34.

Don’t miss out on all the action from Nichols, New York beginning on Saturday, with Derby Fest II and the beginning of live racing. 2009 Race day t-shirts and race schedule magnets will be given out at 6:00 p.m. to patrons while supplies last.
