Tommy Baker, 72, dies

Columbus, OH — Tommy H. Baker, 72, died April 19, 2010, at The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus.

He was born Oct. 27, 1937, in Waynesfield to Ed W. and Pauline M. Craft Baker, who preceded him in death. On July 7, 1956, he married Dorothy L. “Dottie” Stemen, who survives in Lima.

Mr. Baker retired in 1989 from the maintenance department at Ford Motor Co. Lima Engine Plant after 30 years. Following his retirement, he focused on a lifetime love of training and racing horses.

He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 1219 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 370, Lima, and a former member of FOE Aerie 691, Wapakoneta. He was also a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association and enjoyed going to the Little Brown Jug every year.

He loved working in his yard, golfing and most of all watching his grandchildren play sports.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by his daughters, Kimberly A. (Mike) Newland, Vicki L. Hicks and Melissa R. (Scott) Sweeny; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Eddie; and a sister, Helen Jo Rowen.
