Tony Ciuffetelli wins at big odds in GSY Spring Series at Monticello

Monticello, NY — The GSY Spring Series continued this week with another race around the half-mile upstate oval at Monticello on Thursday (May 20).

Even though the amateurs were at a different venue in a different state, the standard speed duel occurred again with the amateur pacers and drivers.

This week’s duel was between Sammy B Happy (Dave Yarock) and Mccard Attack (Chad Washington). They both left hard from their inside post positions and kicked into overdrive through grueling :27.2 and :56 fractions. This set up the race for the closers to come calling and indeed they did from all angles and lanes.

When the dust settled, longshot Just Sayin (Tony Ciuffetelli) went three wide just before the three-quarter pole and was able to win by a half-length over the big time favorite Stormyweatherahead (Joe Lee) and Cashncam (Marianna Monaco) rounded out the trifecta in the 1:56.4 mile.

The winner is a 10-year-old mare sired by Make It Brief out of Apache Raindrop. She is also owned and trained by Ciuffetelli.

The GSY amateurs will be back at The Meadowlands next Friday night for the third leg of this Spring Series. The purse will be a robust $11,500. The first post is scheduled for 6:20 p.m.
