The 9-year-old French trotting star Aubrion du Gers died Tuesday (July 16) in an accident in France.
In a training pass at the farm which belongs to top trainer Jean Michel Bazire, Aubrion du Gers collided with another trotter, 7-year-old Cyrano du Pont. Both horses died and one of the lads driving the trotters broke a leg.
Aubrion du Gers, who was hailed as the world’s best gelding, raced last on July 7 at La Capelle, where he was a beaten second to rank outsider Valko Jenilat.
In May he won an elimination in the Elitlopp in Stockholm and finished second in the final.
Aubrion du Gers took a mark of 1:53f. He raced 73 times and won 46 and earned $2.85 million.
Jean Michel Bazire, who owned the top trotter, had planned to bring Aubrion du Gers to the International Trot at Yonkers in October.
