Top Swedish trotters back in business

Francesco Zet with Orjan Kihlström, who was favored to win the Elitlopp at Solvalla last month but finished fourth in the final, returned to the winner’s circle Saturday night (June 15) at the Boden track in Northern Sweden.

Francesco Zet (sired by Father Patrick) won the Nordbotten Grand Prix with a purse for the winner of $95,000, in 1:53.4f (mile rate) followed by a half-length by Castor the Star with Mats E. Djuse.

This was victory number 23 from 27 races and Francesco Zet now has lifetime earnings of 20.2 million SEK — or $1.9 million.

Another top Swedish trotter, Borups Victory (sired by Googoo Gaagaa), who surprised by finishing second in the Elitlopp, won the Kymi Grand Prix in Finland with trainer Daniel Wäjersten in the bike.

Borups Victory was in command most of the trip and won easily, timed in 1:54.1f (mile rate) followed by the French favorite Go On Boy with Romain Derieux, who was parked out most of the race.

The purse for the winner was $106,000.
