Top trainer honors still up for grabs at Pocono

Wilkes-Barre, PA — It appears it’s going be a “photo finish” to determine the top trainer by wins at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs as the season concludes Saturday night (Nov. 13).

Going into the final two days of harness racing, Carmine Fusco has a two-win lead over Ron Burke, 89 victories to 87. Burke has led throughout most of the season before being caught late in the meet.

Fusco is seeking his third trainer’s crown in four years, winning in 2007 with a track record 177 victories and in 2008 with 89. Last year’s winner was Chris Oakes.

Burke will have one horse entered Friday and five on the final day of the meet. Meanwhile, Fusco has five horses entered each night.

The top percentage trainer in 2010 will be Lou Pena with a gaudy .471 percentage.

George Napolitano, Jr. captured his fifth driving crown at the Northeastern Pennsylvania oval, going over the 300-win mark for the fourth time in that five year stretch.

It appears Jim Morrill, Jr. will be top percentage driver with a .381 mark compared to .376 for Napolitano. Morrill doesn’t have any drives this weekend.
