Top trotters and pacers vie at 3R Sunday

from the Quebec Jockey Club

Trois-Rivieres, PQ — The trotters and pacers headline the second to last live racing program at the Hippodrome 3R on Sunday (Nov. 6).

The trotters are in the limelight first in the third race where Caroluzzo, despite finishing off the board in his last two starts, has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite from post five for driver Stephane Gendron. A 7-year-old chestnut stallion by Musclesextrodinair, Caroluzzo is trained by Daniel Martin for breeder/owner Michael Cote Gagnon and sports five wins this season. His last two losses were against top competition with miles going in 1:57. Looking three starts back finds Caroluzzo in winning form with Gendron in the sulky, romping by 12-3/4 lengths in 1:58.3.

It will not be a walk in the park for Caroluzzo as he faces a stellar foe in R Rkadabra from post four for driver Steeven Genois. R Rkadabra is a six-time winner this season, recently qualified with an easy win at 3R in 2:01 and prior lines show he can lead the field from start to finish.

Other contenders include Aworthy BI (post seven), who is taking a jump up in class after scoring two straight wins at 3R, another return winner in Dreamnwillie (post eight) and Force Naturelle (post six).

Three return winners will battle it out in the eighth race pace where D J Power, Bemmol Kalie and Articular will go at it.
D J Power starts from the rail for driver Pierre Luc Roy and last week this duo worked out a strong mile in posting a one length score in 1:58.4 before the rains came in. It was the tenth victory this season for the 5-year-old gelding by Major In Art.

Starting alongside D J Power in post two is return winner Bemmol Kalie for veteran driver Gaetan Lamy. Last week Bemmol Kalie wired the field in 2:00.3 for his fifth win this year.

Articular goes from post five for driver Mario Charron and last week they worked out a perfect pocket trip to score in 2:03 over a sloppy track.

Other contenders include the top mare, Rainbow Place (post seven) and Shanghai Kang (post three).

Track Notes: Trainer Yves Tessier, who holds a three-race lead over defending champion Maxime Velaye, has one starter Sunday, Mr Sunshine Boy in the fifth race. His 23-20 lead should hold through next week.

Leading driver Louis-Philippe Roy is driving in the first race before heading off to Rideau Carleton. Roy has easily secured his first driving title at 3R with 58 wins. Pascal Berube and Stephane Gendron are tied at 35 wins each for second place. Roy is also leading Guy Gagnon for the driving title at Rideau, 122-109.

On closing day next week, the Hippodrome 3R will honor two veterans of racing in Quebec, the trotter Pablo Angus and the pacer Charlotte’s Tazman, both of whom will be retiring from racing come Jan. 1 as they will turn age 15.
