Top trotters battle at Meadowlands on Friday

from the Meadowlands Media Relations Department

East Rutherford, NJ — Friday (April 7) signals the weekly start to live racing at The Meadowlands. The weekend begins with an 11-race offering led by a quality field of eight in the seventh race, a $20,000 conditioned trot.

The first quarter of the racing season has seen a parade of stars command the trotting ranks with Muscles Diamond, Crosby’s Clam Bake, B Yoyo and Opulent Yankee trading blows at the top through the winter months before Melady’s Monet joined the fray in March.

Those five remain in the mix, joined by quality performers such as former world record holder Wind Of The North, high percentage winner JATO and former Ontario Sires Stakes star Second Sister, representing the ladies, resulting in a very competitive horse race.

Melady’s Monet has been awarded the slight favorite’s role, paired this week with driver David Miller for trainer Kevin McDermott and owner Melady Enterprises. He shows up every week and does his work to the tune of more than a million dollars in his racing career and will begin from the outside post eight on Friday.

As tax season approaches The Meadowlands offers as a promotion the Tax Relief Sweepstakes which amounts to free money for the contestants. Stop by the customer service desk to enter for a chance to get some.

Post time is 7:15 p.m.
