from Kawartha Downs
Fraserville, ON — One decade ago Mr Tasty won the Guy LaRush Memorial at Kawartha Downs in 1:54, the fastest trotting mile ever contested over the five-eighths-mile track. That record still stands with the closest to it the 1:54.4 mile recorded by Hall of Famer San Pail during his sophomore season one month before Mr Tasty’s mile.
Mr Tasty returns to the place of his triumph this Saturday night (July 15) as part of Kawartha Downs’ 45th anniversary program. He will be the special Meet & Greet Ambassador along with his owner Amy Turcotte who trained him for the last few years of his career. In total the now 14-year-old gelding by Malabar Man made 253 lifetime starts with 38 wins, 31 seconds and 26 thirds for $466,753 in earnings.
Fans are encouraged to visit with Mr Tasty and Amy (whose brother Justin is one of KD’s regular drivers) and have their photos taken with the track record holder on Saturday. He’s be stationed beside the Kids Activity area on the grass behind the grandstand.
Fans will receive free cupcakes to celebrate Kawartha’s 45th anniversary and those who bring someone to the track who has never been before will also be rewarded in the Bring A Friend contests and giveaways. A betting seminar hosted by Gord Brown and Nick Boyd will be held from 6-6:30 p.m. in the Finish Line Bar.
Post time is 7 p.m. for the special night.
