Tracks cancel Thursday and Friday cards due to winter weather

from harness publicists across North America

Winter weather has forced some tracks to cancel their Thursday (Jan. 2) and Friday (Jan. 3) live racing cards. Below are the notices that have been sent to the USTA Newsroom.

Freehold cancels live racing on Friday

Freehold, NJ — Freehold Raceway has announced that live racing scheduled for Friday (Jan. 3) has been cancelled due to a forecast of heavy snow and bitter cold temperatures in the Freehold area.

Simulcasting will continue as scheduled.

Live racing is scheduled to resume on Saturday with first race post set for 12:30 p.m.

Meadowlands cancels live racing and evening simulcasting

East Rutherford, NJ — With the forecasted winter storm, Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment is canceling Thursday night’s live racing.

In an effort to accommodate those horsemen who entered to race Thursday night, the entire race card, including the first round of the Super Bowl Trotting Series, will be moved to Thursday (Jan. 9).

There will be no new draw for next Thursday. All horses will retain their post positions and program numbers. We understand that due to a minimal amount of racetracks open this time of year our entry box is often overflowing. We do not want those horsemen scheduled to race their horses Thursday night to lose that opportunity. We feel this is fair for all horsemen and this decision was made with the full support of the SBOANJ.

Friday morning’s qualifiers will be moved to Saturday (Jan. 4) at 10 a.m.

The Meadowlands and Winners OTW will also end simulcasting at 6 p.m. Thursday night.

Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment is scheduled to resume live racing at 7:15 p.m. Friday. Please check www.PlayMeadowlands.com for updates on Friday’s simulcasting re-opening.

Racing is scheduled to resume on Friday (Jan. 3). First post will be at 12:25 p.m.
