Trio of DSBF prelims held at Dover

Dover, DE — Totally Rusty and Purrfect Bags remained unbeaten and Gigi Deo won for the first time in Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund second leg preliminaries for 2-year-old pacing fillies on Monday (Dec. 1) at Dover Downs.

The favorites reined supreme in the final prelims leading to next Monday’s $100,000 DSBF final.

Totally Rusty won for the seventh time in eight career races.

Totally Rusty was an overwhelming favorite in the first division, carving out an easy 1:54 victory, her seventh in eight career races for breeder-owner Carter Racing Stable. Corey Callahan was in the bike for trainer Doug Lewis in the wire-to-wire conquest. Fly Me Courageous (George Dennis) was a distant second with Miss Ruby S (Ben Stafford Jr.) was the show horse.

Totally Rusty is the sole offspring of her sire Rusty’s For Real from the Badlands Hanover dam Rusty’s Joy. She has now won $79,250 this season.

Purrfect Bags remained a perfect seven-for-seven, romping home in 1:53.2 to win the second $20,000 division. Vic Kirby drove the Jim King trainee owned by his wife, Joann King. A daughter of Delaware’s leading pacing stallion, Roddy’s Bags Again, out of Purrfectly Bad, Purrfect Bags now has won $101,750 in her first year of racing. Western Sunshine (Tony Morgan) was runner-up. Riggins Route (Callahan) finished third.

Gigi Deo won her first $20,000 DSBF prelim after a close second last week. Ross Wolfenden guided the Riggins-See And B Seen filly to a lifetime best 1:53 victory, her fourth, with three seconds and a third in eight lifetime races. J&T Silva Stables, C&G Racing Stable and Deo Volente Farms own the winner of $93,300 this campaign. Aaron Lambert is her trainer. Spin Vision (Callahan) and Brian’s Thunder (Jim Morand) were second and third, respectively.

The top eight point getters after two weeks of prelims race in next Monday’s $100,000 DSBF final.

JFE Enterprise’s Handsoffmycookie returned to the winner’s circle in the $18,000 Mares Open Pace with her sixth win of the year. Trace Tetrick was at the controls as the Art Major-Observe Me 5-year-old now has $88,410 in 2014 winnings, upping her career earnings to $1,317,082. Monochromatic (Callahan) and race favorite Kiss Dont Bite (Kirby) took shots at the winner to no avail before finishing second and third.

Allan Davis had a four-bagger while Ross Wolfenden drove two winners, moving within one victory of 6,000 lifetime wins. Also collecting doubles were Corey Callahan, Trace Tetrick and Vic Kirby. Trainers Doug Lewis, Dave McCaffery and Wayne Givens haltered two winners each, while Legacy Racing of Delaware was an owner double.

Monday through Thursday post time is 4:30 p.m. There is no live racing Friday and Saturday. Sunday racing resumes at 5:30 p.m.
