Trotters poised for Wednesday showdown

Pompano Beach, FL — With more than half the field entered having won more than once in their last three starts, Pompano Park Harness Track’s Open Handicap Trot on Wednesday will be a classic showdown.

The 11th race $11,500 feature is highlighted by return winner and track record holder Trapper Salute N from post six, who scored last week with a gutsy 1:554 triumph on the front end for trainer/driver George Napolitano, Jr. The versatile Australian newcomer has been sharp either from on or off the pace and is the 8-5 favorite.

Trapper Salute A shares the track record for older geldings with Damon Runyon, who starts from post five and is the 2-1 second choice. Parked for his life first-over last week and finishing off the board for driver David Ingraham, Damon Runyon had won his previous two starts, beating Trapper Salute A two starts back in 1:554.

BeepBeep Move Over was a game second to Trapper Salute A last week in his first bid in the Open Handicap Trot and starts from post four for driver Kevin Wallis. Prior to last week, the five-year-old stallion had won four straight, the fastest a lifetime best of 1:561.

The only other return winner in the field is Catch Me If Ucan from the rail for driver Vince Copeland. Reeling off two straight wins, the eight-year-old gelding scored a lifetime mark last week in 1:564 and is unbeaten in 2004 for owner/trainer Mike Watson.

Rounding out the field are Town Meister (post two) and Ultimate Sundance (post three).
