Trotting mares head C$120,000 3R Series Tuesday

from the Quebec Jockey Club

Trois-Rivieres, PQ — Both trotting mares and horses are in the limelight Tuesday evening (May 31) at the Hippodrome 3R in the second round of the C$120,000 Quebec-Bred Series for 4- and 5-year-olds.

The ladies take center stage in the seventh race with a full field of 10 going to post.

SOS Striking Monte is the morning line favorite from post four for driver Mario Charron and trainer Guy Roy, having looked very impressive in the opening round last week for owner Francis Proulx. A 5-year-old daughter of Striking Sahbra, SOS Striking Monte took command last week after the half-mile marker and never looked back, winning by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:59.4.

Also in the field is another return winner in the series, SOS Revange, who has drawn the rail for driver Gaetan Lamy. This 4-year-old mare by Kadabra is trained by Jean Tourigny for owner Monalisa Pagliericci and last week drew off in winning her division in 2:01.4. She is now undefeated in two starts this year.

Two-time series champion (2015 and 2014) Viva Bayama returns in post three for trainer/driver Carl Duguay and last week was parked out the entire mile against SOS Revange but held game for second place.

The horses do battle in the second round but will be featured in a non-wagering race that will be held between the fifth and sixth races on the program.

Featured will be track record holder and 2015 series champion Seeyou Men, starting from post one for driver Robert Shepherd and trainer Isabelle Darveau. Last week Seeyou Men was in control of the race but could not hold off a game Maximuscle, who bested him by a neck in 1:59.4.

Maximuscle is not back in the race because he broke stride at the start last week and despite winning had to qualify again in order to be entered.

It will not be that easy for Seeyou Men as he faces two newcomers to the Hippodrome 3R in Me The Boss and Notrouble Dechafra, who are shipping in from racing at Flamboro Downs. Me The Boss was second in his last start, race timed in 1:58, while in his prior start he won in 1:58.2. He will start from post three and will be driven by Stephen Charlton. Notrouble Dechafra is winless in 13 starts this year but shows being race timed in 1:57.4 back in April at Mohawk Raceway.

Post time Tuesday evening is 7 p.m. For more information, visit www.quebecjockeyclub.com.

Track Notes: This Sunday (June 5), 3R will host its first All-Star Drivers Challenge featuring many of the top drivers in the world. Hall of Famer John Campbell, Tim Tetrick, Yannick Gringras, Daniel Dube, Jody Jamieson, Sylvain Filion and 2015 3R leading drivers Denis St-Pierre and Mario Charron will compete in eight tournament races with $10,000 in prize money.

All of the drivers will be at a meet and greet with race fans starting at 12:30 p.m. in the clubhouse area.
