True High Voltage posts 50th career win

Toledo, OH — Sunday (May 12) was an eventful evening at Toledo’s Raceway Park as 11 exciting races were on the program.

True High Voltage trotted home for his 50th career victory in the evening’s first race. The 12-year-old has 372 career starts, winning 50 times and finishing second and third 53 and 67 times, respectively. True High Voltage (Davanti-Sonic Lil-Breezing Speed) has career earnings of $189,710 and a lifetime mark of 1:58.1 at Windsor Raceway at age nine. The trotter’s richest win was for a purse of $9,750 in a race at Sudbury Downs in 2008.

Scott Altizer of Caro, Mich., owns, trains and drove the gelding to this milestone triumph. True High Voltage returned $4.80 to win. The veteran trotter received a tough first-over trip and finished 4-1/2 lengths in front of his closest competition, stopping the clock in 2:02.1.

Night Pro remained undefeated by winning for the fifth time in five career starts in the night’s tenth race. The 3-year-old is owned, trained and driven by Dale Decker of Temperance, Mich.

Night Pro started from post four and was fourth at the quarter before going first-up the reminder of the mile. He won by one length over his closest competitor, Ring Around Rosie (Jason Merriman). Sunday’s triumph increased Night Pro’s (Pro Bono Best-Midnight Jewel) lifetime earnings to $17,300. He was the favorite and returned $4.40 to win.

Frank Lloyd was an upset winner in the evening’s finale. Don Cincebox capably piloted the gelding for owner and trainer Stacey Vanraemdonck of Millington, Mich. The favorite finished fourth as Frank Lloyd (56-1) was followed across the wire by Almost Perfect (9-1), Tarantino (33-1) and G Rod, who was the race favorite.

Frank Lloyd returned $115.60 to win; the 9-3 exacta paid $2,259.80; the 9-3-all trifecta returned $2,089.00 and the 9-3-7-all 10-cent superfecta paid $4,234.26.

Mark Headworth is Raceway Park’s leading driver and drove four winners on the evening. Headworth piloted Cruisin N Surfin ($5.80) in race one, Capricious Art ($4.80) in race five, Extremely Fast ($11.00) in race eight and Trickle Hanover ($13.60) in the ninth race.

The 43-year-old Headworth began driving in 1989 and has since garnered 2,939 career victories and is approaching $6 million in purse earnings.
