Tuesday draw reminder for Super Stakes Saturday

from The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono race office

Wilkes-Barre, PA — Trainers are reminded that Tuesday (Aug. 18) will be the entry day for Super Stakes Saturday (Aug. 22) at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

The stakes laden card features The Battle of the Brandywine (3-year-old Open Pace), The Colonial (3-year-old Open Trot) and The Valley Forge (3-year-old Filly Pace).

The finals for both the Battle of the Brandywine and the Colonial will feature a $500,000 purse. The final of the Valley Forge goes for a $350,000 purse. There will be a $200,000 Consolation I and a $100,000 Consolation II for the Battle of the Brandywine and Colonial. The Valley Forge has a $150,000 Consolation I and a $75,000 Consolation II.

The finals will be limited to the nine highest money winning horses in 2015 of those that enter as of the published declaration date and time. The next nine highest money earners in 2015 that enter will be eligible to Consolation I, followed by the next highest nine money earners in 2015 for Consolation II. USTA records (including currency conversions) shall be accepted as being official earnings.

There will be two “also eligibles” drawn for the finals and the consolations. Those horses designated as also eligibles in the finals and consolations I will be drawn into the next level down, but may be eligible to be drawn in at scratch time. Horses may not opt out of their proper races to enter the next level down.

At least nine horses must be entered for each consolation or that consolation may be canceled at the sole discretion of the sponsor. If a consolation race does not fill or if a horse entered fails to be one of the top 27 money earners in 2015, both sustaining payments will be refunded provided, however, the horse meets the current qualifying standards for the race meeting.

Starting fees will be determined as to what level a horse draws in. The finals for the Battle of the Brandywine and the Colonial have a $6,000 starting fee. The Consolation I starting fee in those events is $2,500 and the Consolation II starting fee is $1,500. For The Valley Forge final, the starting fee is $4,000. The Consolation I is $2,000. There is no starting fee for the Valley Forge Consolation II.

Any race with a $100,000 or more purse will be designated as a detention race. Detention races will be required to be in the paddock six hours out from the approximate post time of the race. First race post for Super Stakes Saturday will be 5:30 p.m.

Also featured on the card will be overnight events for the Pennsylvania sired horses that do not make the cut for the Consolation II in both the Battle and the Valley Forge. Those horses that enter the Battle and Valley Forge not making the cut will be automatically entered into their proper non-winners of $50,000 in 2015 condition and will have preference.

The entry closes at 9 a.m.
