Tuesday’s Pick-6 pool at Running Aces could reach $10,000

Columbus, MN — One very unlucky bettor had his hopes for a lone winning Pick-6 ticket worth $5,842 dashed when odds-on favorite Lemondrop Martini made a break in stride midway around the final turn in Sunday night’s (July 22) finale at Running Aces.

The $143.65 consolation payoff for having five out of six wasn’t very consoling, but the favorite’s miscue did create the largest carryover pool in Running Aces’ five-year history and likely will result in a Pick-6 pool when racing resumes on Tuesday night estimated at $10,000.

Tuesday’s Pick-6 consists of races five through 10 on the Running Aces card that begins at 7 p.m. (CDT). The wager includes two seven horse fields, two eight horse fields and two nine horse fields. It kicks off with a Minnesota-sired 2-year-old pace and includes a full gamut of conditioned races including a $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace.

“Tuesday is a good export night for us,” stated Director of Mutuels Ben Blum, “so we expect significant interest and action on this inviting Pick-6 from both our live audience and throughout our growing simulcast network.”

Sunday’s feature race was a $9,400 Open and At Last (Lemoyne Svendsen) returned to his winning ways with a 1:53.1 score for owner-trainer Mark Anderson. Gooch’s Bad Boy (Nick Roland) was second and Most Remarkable (Joey Mapes) third.

A $7,200 race for non-winners of $4,000 in the last five starts or optional $8,000 claimers went to Amigo De Garcia (Steve Wiseman), who won for the first time in 19 2012 starts in an impressive 1:53.4 clocking. Robert Bacon owns the 5-year-old son of Little Steven. Marced Card (Roland) was just a half-length back at the finish with Finn Jet (Magee) garnering the show dough.

Drivers Roland, Magee and Wiseman all fashioned doubles on the 11-race program.
