TVG ‘Get Away’ Amateur Series starts Saturday

by David Siegel, for the California Amateur Driving Club

Sacramento, CA — Long-time supporter of amateur racing in California, TVG, once again is the title sponsor in the “Get Away” series which begins Saturday (June 4) at Cal-Expo. The series consists of a boys and girls division, racing in three legs over the last three weekends of the Winter-Spring meet at the Sacramento oval.

This unique series is a true driving championship as all drivers will be assigned horses in each race on a 100 percent random basis. Both drivers and horses earn points and the horses will divvy up an $8,200 bonus pot at the conclusion of the series in addition to the $2,000 purse level for each of the six races.

Free past performances and selections are offered in support of the series and available at www.trackmaster.com/calx.

In addition to the funding provided by TVG, each driver was responsible for getting a sponsor contributing $200 toward the bonus pool for horses.

The series brings together a variety of drivers. Three of the eight drivers are women, one being a long-time driver (Sue Boyce) and two relative newcomers (Karen Isbell and Amanda Fraser). The men, including Keith Willey, Benny Mancino, Dave Siegel, Rick Bertrand and Nick Casale, range broadly in age and experience. The mix of drivers, driving style and random assignment of horses should make for entertaining and competitive racing.

The first legs of the series are scheduled for races 7 and 9 on the 13-race card.
