TVG late closing final set for Saturday

from the California Amateur Driving Club

Sacramento, CA — The TVG late closing $4,000 claiming series comes to an end on Saturday, May 22, at Cal-Expo as 10 finalists head to the gate for an $8,200 purse.

This event will mark the halfway point for the 2010 amateur driving competition at Cal-Expo. The competition resumes in September with a $2,500 claimer late closing series.

The first two legs featured two divisions each, with three different horses winning, making for a very competitive final.

Being contested in the 11th race, the morning line favorite is Mighty Fella, the only two-race winner in the series. The Dave Gullian-trained, Rick Bertrand-driven gelding has won two in a row and three of his last four. Striking from the seven hole in a 10-horse final, this experienced closer may have things just the way he wants.

The second choice is Big Guy Two Win, coming out of the tough 10 post. Piloted to a victory and a strong second place finish by Sue Boyce, this gelding is a front-runner and is expected to cause much action in the race.

Bertrand (34 points) and Boyce (31 points) are well in front of the drivers’ standings with the next closest, Robert Stepien, with 20 points.

Three other entrants have morning line odds of 4-1, making this a very wide-open affair.

Amateur Club president Dave Siegel commented, “The handles on our four previous races have been very solid and we expect this 10-horse field to be a very exciting race for the competitors and the fans. I expect some healthy pools to wager into and a very competitive race.”

TrackMaster continues to support the event by giving away free programs and selections. They can be found at www.trackmaster.com/calx.
