Twelve-year-old trotter qualifies for Elitlopp

Spring Erom, a 12-year-old Swedish trotter, is still on top of his game and won the Algott Scott Memorial at Aby Saturday (May 13) afternoon; a victory, which not only was worth the winner’s purse of $17,000, but also provided an invitation to race in the prestigious Elitlopp at Solvalla in a fortnight.

Spring Erom, at 12-years-young, received an invitation to the Elitlopp with a victory in the Algott Scott Memorial on Saturday.

Trained by Dan Widegren, Spring Erom was driven by Björn Goop and in command the whole trip. He won easily in a new personal record of 1.53.1f.

“We had hoped to get an invitation to the Copenhagen Cup in Denmark, but never got one,” Widegren said after the race. “Then we opted to race him here today and now we are in the Elitlopp. Unbelievable.”

The main events of the day were the King and Queens Trophy for 4-year-old trotters, both with a purse for the winner of $110,000. The distance in both races was 1-5/16 miles.

The King Trophy was won by Diamanten ,driven by Christoffer Eriksson, who came from behind to catch long-leading Deimos Racing driven by Erik Adielsson. Timed in 1.56.4f (mile rate), Diamanten is sired by Adrian Chip and trained by Robert Berg.

The mare division was won by Cash Crowe who was driven by Johnny Takter. She swept the field with 700 meters to go and managed to hold off a late brush from Inga In Heaven, driven by Björn Goop.

Cash Crowe, who won in 1.57.f (mile rate), is sired by Ready Cash, and competes as a homebred for owner/trainer Petri Puro. The dam of Cash Crowe is a half-sister to legendary Swedish trotter Commander Crowe.
