Twin B Joe Fresh, Selfie Queen sizzle at Red Mile

Lexington, KY — On Sunday (Aug. 14), Red Mile conducted two $80,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Championship series, three $30,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Commonwealth series and six $15,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Golden Rod series for freshman and sophomore filly trotters and pacers.

Twin B Joe Fresh just missed Warrawee Ubeaut’s world record (1:48.3) in her Championship division for 2-year-old filly pacers, while Selfie Queen rebounded from a ninth-place finish in the $500,000 Hambletonian Oaks to collect her first victory of the season. Dexter Dunn swept both Championship events and Yannick Gingras piloted five winners on the 14-race card.

Twin B Joe Fresh (Roll With Joe-Fresh Breeze) stopped the clock in a sparkling 1:48.4 to turn the tables on Strong Poison (Always B Miki-Fiyonce) who was second with Gingras in the bike. Caviart Marcella (Stay Hungry-Caviart Malin) and Andrew McCarthy were third.

Steered by co-owner Dunn, the filly improved her record to 5-4-1 and boosted her bankroll to $136,887.

Twin B Joe Fresh is trained by Chris Ryder, who co-owns the filly with her driver, Peter Trebotica and Barry Spak. Twin B Joe Fresh was a $65,000 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale purchase and paid $4.52 to win.

Selfie Queen provided Dunn with his second of three victories on the day in the Championship division for her age, gender and gait when she hit the wire in 1:51.1. Disclosure (Tony Hall) was second and Bare My Soul (Gingras) was third.

The complexion of the race changed considerably when Venerable (David Miller), the heavy favorite, broke stride at the three-quarter pole. Even if the 2-year-old champion had stayed on the trot, she might have been competing for second behind Selfie Queen as the winner had the lead by the half-mile marker and never relinquished it.

Trained by Nancy Takter, Selfie Queen has already proven she adores the red clay as she captured the $250,000 Championship final as a 2-year-old and five of her six career wins have been at this facility.

The daughter of Muscle Hill-Lady Lakewood was a $170,000 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale purchase. She was bred by James Wilhite Jr. and now has earned $290,750 in purse money. Selfie Queen is owned by Robert Leblanc, David Anderson and John Fielding. She paid $11.64 to her supporters at the windows and established a new lifetime mark.

Commonwealth Series

David Miller swept both $30,000 divisions of the Commonwealth series for 2-year-old filly pacers with Zanatta (Stay Hungry-Major Dancer) and Hungry For Love (Stay Hungry-Lover Of Art).

Trained by Jennifer Bongiorno, Zanatta collected her first victory in her career from three starts. Queen’s Reign (John DeLong) was second and Seashell (Andrew McCarthy) was third.

Zanatta was bred by Am Bloodstock and is owned by One Legend Stable. The filly has now earned $31,595. She fetched $115,000 at last year’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale under the name Kind Attention and is the second foal from her dam, who earned $490,491 on the racetrack.

Zanatta paid $10.98 to break her maiden.

Hungry For Love came home in 1:51.2 to improve her record to 6-3-10 for trainer Ron Burke and owners Thomas and Scott Dillon. Diamondsnpearls (Gingras) was second and Devilish Dreams (A. McCarthy) was third.

Bred by Brittany Farms, Hungry For Love was an $80,000 purchase at last year’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. The filly is a half-sibling to Rock Me Baby (Rock N Roll Heaven, $394,523), Art Scene (American Ideal, $553,984), Summer Charm (Bettor’s Delight, $422,238) and Lyons Liberty (American Ideal, $105,955).

Hungry For Love has now earned $65,000. She paid $15.98 to win.

Dunn collected his third driving victory of the day with More Than Ever in the sole division of the Commonwealth series for 3-year-old filly trotters in 1:52.2. Pioneer As (Hall) was second and Rock A Bye Lindy (De Long) was third.

More Than Ever improved her record to 15-3-4-4 and has earned $116,171. This is her second consecutive win as she captured the first leg in this series on Aug. 2.

Trained by Tony Alagna, More Than Ever was bred by Brittany Farms, who co-owns the filly with Riverview Racing. The daughter of Father Patrick-Anywhere With You paid $5.60 to win as the post time favorite.

Golden Rod Series

The three $15,000 Golden Rod divisions for 2-year-old filly pacers were won by Caris (Gingras), Ravenous (Gingras), and Soft Spot (David Miller).

The three $15,000 divisions for 3-year-old filly trotters were annexed by Saffron Girl (Gingras), Blue Bayou Deo (John MacDonald) and Moni Heist (Gingras).

Sire stakes action at Red Mile continues Monday (Aug. 15) and Tuesday (Aug. 16) with nine events each day for freshman and sophomore trotters and pacers of both genders. First post is 1 p.m. (EDT).

There will also be a guaranteed $10,000 Pick-4 (races seven through 10) on Monday and Tuesday (races six through nine) in conjunction with the U.S. Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering Program.
