Two in a row for James McIlmurray in GLADA trot

by Patricia Miller, for the Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association

Hazel Park, MI — April Moonlight, a 7-year-old mare by Ok’s Classic, showed her strength and determination for last week’s Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association winner James McIlmurray in the Monday (June 3) series leg at Hazel Park.

She ground down the leader and race favorite VIP, in rein to Steve Oldford, as the stretch drive played out for the excited fans. She was in second place from the three-quarter pole and caught VIP at the wire, tripping the camera at 1:59.4. Cacao Rust, driven by Kara Buxton, took the show dough in 2:01.

A big group of fans and supporters crowded the winner’s circle for the photo, with a beaming McIlmurray in the center. Trainer Dale Zuziak and owner Bob Miller shared in the glory.

Setting up hopes for three in a row for McIlmurray, the drivers immediately looked ahead to next week’s competition.

GLADA appreciates Hazel Park Race Secretary Ladd Biro’s assistance in carding these exciting amateur races, and as they race on from week to week, the scholarship fund continues to grow.
