Two Midwest Billings splits on tap at Scioto Downs

by John Manzi, for the Billings Series

Columbus, OH — Two Midwest Region divisions of the C.K.G. Billings Amateur Driving Series are on tap on Thursday, July 16, at Scioto Downs and it appears the big guns are coming out to the competition there.

Accomplished and award winning amateurs like Steve “You’re Never Too” Oldford, “Tar Heel Tom” Williams, “Trader Bud” Hatfield, Bob “the Lumberman” Troyer and Brent “the Zanesville Clipper” Davis will be joined by the likes of other talented drivers in the events which are slated as races two and five on the card that evening.

Williams, who lost the top spot on the Midwest Region leaderboard to Oldford last week, will be out to reverse positions when he handles Star-why from post seven in the first split, race two. However, trouble looms for them in the presence of “Trader Bud’s” Done Dreamen, a 1:57.1 winner this year who’ll start inside Williams from post position six.

Oldford will try to keep his ball rolling when he drives Tactical Advantage from post three in the second division, race five. However, he may have his work cut out for him if his competition is all that they appear to be.

They’ll grapple with Patricia “the Write Stuff” Miller whose Starry Night was a 2:01.2 winner in Billings action at Raceway Park last week and Kelly “Sky” Walker’s American Flyer, who owns a 1:57.2 mark this season. And don’t count out Dean “What Am I Bid” Beachy and Quantum King Leo who tripped the timer in 2:00.4 over a double oval recently.

Making his Billings debut at Scioto Downs will be “Jungle Jim” Pollock, Jr. who’ll handle Abundaprince and start from post position eight in the second division. “Marvelous Marvin” Raber will drive his first Billings race of the year when he gets behind Mystical Cash and they leave from the eight hole in the first division.

Post time for the 13-race Scioto Downs card that evening will be at 6:30 p.m.
