Two-year-old Osterc impressive in Pocono trot

Wilkes-Barre, PA — A $13,000 trot for 2-year-old colts and geldings on Monday (July 2) at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono resulted in a youngster making his career debut a winning one and a young driver running his lifetime sulky credentials to 4-for-6, as Osterc and driver Josert Fonseca combined for a 1:59.1 victory.

Osterc and Fonseca forced a :30 quarter out of Ginger Tree Skyr, then yielded and kept the pocket tight as Manwilling moved to challenge in middle splits of 1:00.2 and 1:30. When the two-wide challenger faded late on the far turn, Fonseca moved outside with his charge. Though still two lengths down in mid-stretch, Fonseca was confident in the closing ability of his freshman, and Osterc got to the wire a length ahead of Ginger Tree Skyr.

Fonseca’s confidence in the Jimmy Takter trainee probably came from knowledge of the colt’s pedigree — he is a son of Cantab Hall, who had been installed in the Living Horse Hall of Fame the night before in Goshen, N.Y., and his dam is Oh Oh Hereshecomes, a daughter of millionaire Lantern Kronos and a half-sister to millionaire The Bank. Christina Takter and Goran Falk are the owners of Osterc.
